Snoopy pissed off. Simba not satisfied.

I was really concerned with Snoop Dogg’s name change to Snoop Lion. I felt like you can’t go from being man’s best friend to a big pussy over night with no explanation. I further felt like it’s a half done name. It’s either Snoop Dogg or Simba Lion. Not Snoop Lion. Seriously. Here’s how we will now refer to Snoop’s top six songs:

Now as much as I can make a joke about all this, the actual ‘story’ is rather cool. Snoop says his recent journey to Jamaica was a calling and whilst there he had an awakening experience which opened up his third eye. He has now shed the name and persona of Snoop Dogg (fighting, making money, gangs) and is rechristened as the reggae writer, Snoop Lion (by Rastafarian priests).

“I have always said I was Bob Marley reincarnated,” Snoop told a crowd of reporters recently. Now whether or not he really did have a true spiritual journey, or if it’s all just good spin to dominate another market, either way it’s a positive shift. This guy has a HUGE following and if the God of Gangsta is now preaching peace and love like Marley, the world’s in for a pleasant vibe shift.

One song he has made is called ‘No Guns Allowed’ and it is a plea to ban hand-guns, a position he says he has finally come around to. “I have always wanted to make a song that could really stand for something,” he said.

Good – it’s about time. In particular, it’s about time someone in the U.S Stood up for something like this. Especially after the recent shootings. Going against the rapper persona is the best thing Snoop could do. I now have more respect for him than ever regardless of spin or not. It’s a step in the right direction for everyone.
